Biographies
Buddy Weaver
Buddy Weaver started calling in 1977 while still in school, living in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is a third-generation caller square dance caller who currently lives with his family in San Diego, CA.
Buddy became an accredited member of CALLERLAB in 1981 and is currently on its Board of Governors. He is active in teaching other callers and has called/conducted seminars in the United States, Japan, and Europe.
Buddy has been active in the square dance recording industry since 981 with over 300 vocals released. He has consolidated the major square dance labels of Blue Star, Hi Hat, and Rawhide Music into Buddy Weaver Music; copyright holder of the largest square dance music
library in the world. BMW also produces a weekly podcast dedicated to the perpetuation of square dancing. These podcasts are available for free listening (streaming) or download. Visit the BWM Podcast.
Buddy is also the editor and publisher of American Square Dance Magazine.
Michael Kellog
Michael Kellogg began square dancing in 1983 at the age of 21, with the express intention of becoming a caller. He taught his first two beginner Square Dance classes for two local clubs exactly one year after walking in the door for the first time at his beginning Square Dance class.
Michael currently teaches or calls beginner level thru C3a on a weekly basis, and calls SSD through C-3B at festivals and special events.
Dancers know Michael today for his high energy, exuberant and uplifting calling style, and technical but easy to understand teaching approach. It’s hard not to have fun when you’re dancing to Michael’s lively presentation.
Michael is a computer scientist by education, and spent many years working as a Senior Systems Analyst for Technicolor Home Entertainment Services in the design and manufacture of optical discs. He has since retired and now devotes full-time to calling.
Calling Square Dances has taken him to most of the 50 states and 11 foreign countries. When he’s not calling or dancing, some of Michael’s passions include fountain pens, mechanical watches, and vintage hats (especially from the 30s and 40s) of which he owns over 1,000.
Michael lives in Northridge, CA, a Los Angeles suburb, with his wife, Janienne. He has two grown children, and two grandchildren.
Jeremy Butler
Jeremy lives in Virginia Beach, VA with his wife Jamie.
He started calling in 1996.
He is the club caller for the Capitol Squares (A2/C1) in Richmond, VA, The Square Edges (Plus) in Newport News, VA., The Fox Hill Squares (SSD) in Hampton, Va
Jeremy is also a traveling caller and calls for festivals and dances in many places around the country.
He is the current Advanced Program Committee Vice-Chairman and a member of the Board of Governors in CALLERLAB and is the Membership Committee Chair for the Virginia State Callers Association.
Jeremy has recorded for both Crown Records and Royal Records and calls the SSD program thru C1.
Dawn and David Mee
Dawn began her teaching career in the mid-70’s as a clogging instructor, choreographer, and founding member of the Cripple Creek Clogger’s exhibition team. After over 30 years of teaching clogging, she decided it was time to retire and begin a new chapter of her dancing career. She began teaching round dance classes in 2017.
Dawn currently teaches two very successful round dance classes in Anaheim. Presently, she teaches Phase II-IV, and dances through Phase VI. Dawn is a member of ROUNDALAB, ICBDA, and SCRDTA. She has served as Secretary for SCRDTA, and she and her husband, David are currently the Directors for the Palm Springs Round-Up Festival, which supports all phases of round dancing.
Dawn has choreographed several dances, a few are: “Remember When IV” (phase IV Slow 2-Step; “What A Man Gotta Do” (phase III Cha); “Photograph” (phase IV Rumba); “A Perfect Night for Dreaming (phase IV Waltz) and just recently “Smooth Operator” (phase III Cha) which just received ROQ.
David is a square dance and has been calling for over 40 years. He began calling originally in 1975 at the age of 11; however, he did not fully pursue the calling profession until 1980. Since that time David has become a very popular, well liked and highly sought-after caller. He currently records for CHIC Recordings. In addition to his square dance calling, David works as an executive for Disney, and as the saying goes; for David it truly is "The Happiest Place on Earth". David “helps” Dawn teach one of her classes and enjoys it when they find time to actually dance together.
David and Dawn have 3 daughters, 2 son-in-laws and 2 grandsons. They both enjoy playing cards and games, going to church, and spending time with family and friends!
Mary Ann Callahan
MaryAnn has completed 30+ years Cueing and Teaching Round Dancing!! Cueing and Instructing Round Dancing in Northern California since 1991. She is a member of Roundalab, ICBDA and DRDC.
She does Ph 2-6 Round Dance Instruction, and cues for the following groups: the Moonlight Dancers Round Dance Group and the Willow Creek Round Dance Club. She also teaches Beginning Clogging for the River City Cloggers.
She has been the featured cuer and support cuer for the Silver State Festival as well as the Oregon Summer Festival, Washington State Square & Round Dance Festival, the Bakersfield Fiesta Square & Round Dance Festival, Golden State Roundup Square & Round Dance Festival, Washington State Round Dance Instructors Weekend Festival, National Square & Round Dance Festival, ICBDA/URDC Round Dance Festival.
MaryAnn has choreographed and written many round dances including watzs, 2-steps, foxtrots, and chas.
Doug and Leslie Dodge
Doug and Leslie have been square and round dancing since the 1970’s in Yuma and Denver respectfully. In 1981 they met at the National Square Dance Convention in Seattle. After a long-distance courtship, they were married in April 1982 (at which time Leslie found out that Doug was a cuer and teacher). They have now been teaching choreographed and social ballroom dance together for more than 40 years. They have danced, cued and taught in the US, Canada, Japan, Europe and Central America at Square and Round Dance Weekends, Festivals and Conventions, and on cruise ships.
They love teaching and writing dances. Some of their more popular dances include: A Song in the Night (2TS); Adagio II (2WZ); Feels So Right (4BO); Feed the Birds IV (4WZ); My Cup Runneth Over (2WZ); Sukiyaki (2TS); and I Belong to You (5RB/FT).
They split their time between teaching dance in Mesa, AZ during the winter months, and summers in Bozeman, Montana and traveling to different dance festivals.
Doug is retired from the US Forest Service, and when he’s not dancing, he enjoys fly fishing, reading, and playing badminton and pickleball. Leslie is retired from being a full-time mom and enjoys being a grandma. She is an award-winning photographer, and also enjoys quilting and playing cards.
They have 2 daughters who love to dance. Gwen is a Lt. in the Navy. Sarah helps manage several day-care facilities; and is also a round dance cuer and ballroom dance instructor.
